Comment on Is Marijuana Legitimately Illegal? by martins3

I know most of us if not all of us have friends that have smoked marijuana so we should know the consequences it has on people. Every time I have seen someone high they seem really happy and mellow which is not bad, it could even be compared to being drunk. I know that all of us have seen someone drunk and most of the time they are really happy, in my opinion if alcohol is legal than marijuana should be too. Even though I have never really smoked marijuana, I know a few people who smoke it so much they probably drink liquids less than they smoke. However, they seem perfectly healthy and some of them even smoke before taking major exams and receive straight A’s, which only goes to show that marijuana does not really affect the brain. I even know a person who smoked marijuana for health purposes and it did miracles for her, she had broken her leg and was in a lot of pain so she would smoke to relieve that pain. Marijuana is used as a pain reliever with many medical diseases so why can it not be used for every person in pain as a legal pain reliever.
I am really glad that boxstar had time to search where marijuana originated from and why it became illegal. I never really understood why it is illegal because it does not have as many long-term affects as alcohol and tobacco, which are both legal. I am really happy with what happened in Massachusetts, even though marijuana is not legalized no one goes to jail for having it in possession.

I do not like to say that I want capital punishment banned because the majority of the American people feel it is humane and maybe those were the people who had a loved one taken from them. As I said in class, I have never had a loved one taken from me and I would not know how that feels until I am faced with that. Which is why I do not believe my personal belief is as important as others who have been faced with a crude murder of a loved one.

I agree that there would be concern with the legalization of drugs. However, drugs like marijuana have not been proven to be gateway drugs or addictive. Also, there are so many mixed messages about the effects of these drugs. If they were legalized, more intensive studies could be done by medical experts.
Additionally, to say that we shouldn't legalize drugs just because it wouldn't cause all adolescents to abstain is a moot point. Legalizing drugs would benefit more than hinder (look at Holland's drug policy on marijuana). The point of a democracy is to better the whole of society. If we had to look at every policy to encompass every individual, there would be no government structure at all.
Also, I am not saying that by legalizing drugs, the black market will completely deteriorate. It would instead give the government the ability to better assess the drug trade within our country.
Lastly, if drugs were legalized, more rehabiliation centers and programs could be founded. In the end, it is always the choice of the addict to find and want help. This would give this individual more options on how to do so.

The link is fixed. Just let it take you to that site, and about halfway down the page, there is a play button next to the song title, Reach. Please listen to it. It means a lot to me, because the message of the song is directed towards myself. He was an incredible musician as well as a friend and a brother. He's probably looking down smiling, knowing that his music is being shared.

I agree with the argument. I think that drugs should be legalized. They are just as harmful as alcohol can be if someone becomes an alcoholic. There are many benefits that will come from the legalization of drugs as stated above. I also think that making drugs legal will decrease the mass use of them. I think that the attraction to drugs is because the government is telling people they cannot use them. Telling people they can’t only make people want to defy the government and get them illegally and use them. I am not saying that drugs should be legalized without any restrictions. Rules and laws can be placed on them about who, when, where, can use the drugs and of course there should be consequences if the rules are broken. Overall I think if a person wants to be stupid enough to use these drugs even though they could become addicted and die from them then they should have that right.

The thrift store managers have had the same thought as you, and so they stock Halloween costumes every Christmas. You are right; without such a resource the costumes would be much too expensive for many families. But in the thrift store, most of them sell for only $2 or $3.

It's a beautiful song. The historian I am cannot resist pointing out that it was written by an ex-slave trader who became a pastor. He in turn inspired William Wilberforce to lead the efforts to end the slavetrade in England.

Here is the Wikipedia article on him:

They are discarded by those who live outside Camden and choose to ignore them, but not by the people they live among in the city. It's in some ways a very close knit community of people, who care for one another; hence the big hug you received, showing that you've been welcomed as a member of the neighborhood too!
